The court of district and sessions judge in Chamoli has sentenced a 30-yearold man to life imprisonment for setting his 28-year-old neighbour on fire.
The crime dates back to January 16, 2018 when the accused Pavan Mishra from Dungri village, who had been pressuring Pushpa Devi, a married woman with two children, to leave her husband and marry him poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze.
After the incident, the woman was referred to Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi where she died on March 6, 2018. The police arrested Mishra on April 2, 2018 and sent him to jail. The prosecution presented Pushpa’s dying declaration to the court in which she said Mishra set her on fire. The court convicted Mishra under IPC section 302 (murder) and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on him.
