Tech CEO Pava LaPere found dead with head trauma; suspect Jason Dean Billingsley sought for murder. EcoMap mourns the loss

Police in the US city of Baltimore are probing the homicide of a 26-year-old tech CEO, who was found dead at her apartment in the Mount Vernon neighbourhood. Pava LaPere, the co-founder of the data-curating company EcoMap Technologies, reportedly had severe head injuries when her body was discovered.

LaPere was featured on Forbes’ “30 Under 30” list for social impact this year due to her startup company, according to CNN. Baltimore Police Department (BPD) has not yet disclosed further details regarding the circumstances of her death, as the medical examiner’s office has taken possession of the body, pending an examination.

EcoMap Technologies, the company co-founded by Ms. LaPere, released a statement expressing deep shock and sorrow at her untimely demise. The statement described the circumstances surrounding her death as “deeply distressing” and lauded her as not only the visionary force behind EcoMap but also a compassionate and dedicated leader.

Police are actively searching for the 32-year-old suspect in connection with the murder, identified as Jason Dean Billingsley. Billingsley is wanted for first-degree murder, assault, reckless endangerment, and other charges.

US law enforcement officials have cautioned the public to consider him armed and dangerous. Acting Police Commissioner Richard Worley emphasised the seriousness of the situation, stating, “This individual will kill and he will rape. He will do anything he can to cause harm,” Commissioner Worley during a press conference.

Besides earning a place on Forbes’ “30 Under 30”, Pava LaPere’s startup also achieved a milestone in August, securing nearly USD 8 million in financing.
