NEW DELHI: Calling it a mockery of democracy and constitutional institutions, the BJP reacted vehemently to TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee’s action of mimicking Rajya Sabha chairman and Vice-President of the country Jagdeep Dhankhar in front of the Parliament building while other opposition MPs laughed and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi filmed the act.
In a post on X, parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi said, “The I.N.D.I alliance reaches a new low as suspended TMC MP mimics a constitutional position, and the so-called messiah of democratic values, Rahul Gandhi stands there laughing at it.They are a disgrace to democracy, to the people they represent, and to the nation.”
Several BJP leaders shared the video in which Banerjee is seen mimicking the Vice-President while other MPs laughed and giggled. “This ‘reel’ video of the MPs of the arrogant alliance exposed the ‘real’ face of their pettiness in front of the country. The country is watching this public mockery of Parliament, the Parliamentary process and the Parliamentary system. The condition of the opposition is one of ‘chor machaye noise’,” said education minister Dharmemdra Pradhan in a post on X.
Pradhan said the behaviour of opposition MPs says a lot about the reasons for their suspension. “They did not feel the slightest shame while doing such a cheap act, rather the ‘so-called self-proclaimed contractors of love’ are also busy in making a reel of this meanness,” he said.
I&B minister Anurag Thakur said, “Unbecoming. Unsuitable. Indecorous. Not the one just doing it, but all, laughing and recording.” Later at a press conference, the BJP said the INDIA bloc has a tradition of insulting people who come from backward and humble backgrounds and hold constitutional positions.
