HANUMAKONDA: Telangana‘s Kakatiya University authorities have suspended 81 women PG students from the university hostel for a week for allegedly ragging junior students at the Padmakshi girls’ hostel on the campus late Friday.
According to university authorities, the junior students of economics, commerce, and zoology were ragged by their seniors from the same departments. The harassment had been continuing for three days but the juniors didn’t inform any of the heads of the departments or hostel staff, said varsity sources.
When they couldn’t bear it any longer, the juniors lodged a complaint with registrar Prof T Srinivas Rao, who in turn alerted anti-ragging committee members and security officials in the Padmakshi hostel. Commerce college principal S Narsimha Chary and the registrar later discovered that the allegations were true.
Prof Rao told reporters that the committee decided against filing a police case against the accused students keeping in view their future.
