Congress president and leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge said the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) will see to it that the dalits are not able to raise their head again. Speaking at the Congress’ ‘Hain Tayyar Hum’ rally organized here on Thursday to mark the party’s 139th foundation day, he said, “There is an ideological rift between Congress and RSS — the former believes in equality while the latter doesn’t.”
Speaking in a mix of Hindi and Marathi, Kharge said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi works as per the RSS ideology “which does not believe in social equality”.“One day it will ensure that once again the dalits have to reel under their hegemony. For this, scholarships have been stopped, schools are not getting grants, boarding schools are being closed down,” he said.
With his party already in the mode, Kharge promised that the Congress will introduce the Nyunatam Aay Yojana (NYAY) scheme if voted to power. “Part of the Congress agenda stands for Nyunatam Aay Yojana or Minimum Support Income Programme, under which the target beneficiaries will be getting direct cash transfer of Rs72,000 a year. This will empower women,” he said.
Stating that there are 30 lakh vacancies in the government departments, Kharge said the posts are not being filled up. “They are scared that candidates from the scheduled castes or scheduled tribes (STs) would get jobs by availing the quota,” he said.
Kharge said the Congress wants that Nagpur should be only known as Deeskhabhoomi where Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar embraced Buddhism with lakhs of followers, “and not Sanghbhoomi because RSS has its headquarters here”.
