Nigerian held with Rs 12.5 lakh cocaine – Times of India


THANE: The Thane crime branch arrested a Nigerian national with cocaine worth Rs 12.5 lakh who was reportedly peddling the contraband for the upcoming festive season.
The accused has been identified as Okari Bright, 33, a resident of Pragati nagar of Nallasopara and originally from nigeria.
The police said that acting on a tip-off that a Nigerian national was to come to deliver contraband, a team led by senior inspector Vikas Ghodke laid a trap on Tuesday evening.
The cops in plain clothes spread out near Anand nagar check naka to net the accused, as soon as the Nigerian national came to the spot, he was intercepted by the cops in waiting. The police carried out the body search and recovered from him 31 grams of cocaine which is worth around Rs 12.5 lakh.
“We are interrogating the accused from whom he got the contraband and to whom he was going to sell it,” Ghodke informed.
He was produced in the court that remanded him to police custody till 16 December, said the officer adding that they have seized from him his passport of Nigeria country.
The police said that this was a special drive launched ahead of Christmas and new year celebrations as the demand for the drugs rise for the parties.
Ghodke said that last year in December, they had arrested three Nigerian nationals and had seized from them cocaine, MD powder worth Rs 27.6 lakh.
The police have urged the citizens to report any such peddling to the police to stop the inflow of drugs.
