Lawrence Bishnoi jail interviews: Haryana high court asks Punjab DGP to register 2 FIRs | India News – Times of India

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court has directed the Punjab DGP to immediately register two FIRs with regard to the conduct of two interviews of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in custody. The HC said the investigation of the FIRs shall be carried out by a special investigation team (SIT), headed by IPS officer Prabodh Kumar, DG, Human Rights Commission. The other members of the SIT are S Rahul, IPS, and Nilambari Vijay Jagdale, DIG, cybercrime.The team has been asked to submit its report within two months.

The Punjab DGP has also been directed to get the URLs/weblinks/videos pertaining to both the interviews of Bishnoi removed/blocked/disabled/restricted from all social media platforms forthwith. The news channel where the interview was hosted has to remove the URLs/weblinks/videos from all its news/social media platforms with immediate effect.
A division bench, comprising Justices Anupinder Singh Grewal and Kirti Singh, passed these orders while hearing a PIL petition after a single bench of the HC took suo motu cognisance of the usage of mobile phones within the jail premises by inmates and sought to know details of steps in place to curb the entry of such prohibited items.
The division bench directed the Punjab ADGP, prisons, to file a status report on the timelines for installation of jammers, CCTV cameras, nylon mesh, X-ray body scanners, etc. for augmentation of jail security.
The matter has been adjourned to January 10, 2024.
