Oldman openly acknowledged his own critical view of his performance, deeming it “mediocre” and hinting at what he might have done differently.

While discussing the frequency with which fans associate him with the Sirius Black character, Oldman admitted his work was mediocre. He reflected on the possibility of altering his approach, expressing that if he had read J.K. Rowling’s original books more thoroughly as his co-star Alan Rickman did, he might have approached the character differently, gaining a deeper understanding.
The seasoned actor also shared a valuable perspective on self-critique, emphasizing the importance of not becoming complacent. He said if he would sit and praise his performance, then it would be a sad day, as he would not be able to make the next thing better.
