MADURAI: Amid the ongoing tussle between the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) in Tamil Nadu following the arrest of an ED officer in an alleged bribery case, ED officials skipped a summons by the Madurai city police on Tuesday.
Tallakulam police in Madurai city had summoned them in a case registered over a complaint by DVAC officials that they were prevented by ED officials from discharging their duties when they raided their office in Madurai on December 1, following the arrest of ED officer Ankit Tiwari.With the ED failing to turn up, sources said that the summons are likely to be issued again at a later date.
The DVAC had booked Ankit Tiwari under the Prevention of Corruption Act based on a complaint from Dr T Suresh Babu, chief civil surgeon, Dindigul government medical college hospital, that Tiwari had allegedly demanded Rs 3 crore for not taking action on the complaint pending against Babu. . Subsequently, he reduced the bribe amount to Rs 51 lakh and allegedly received Rs 20 lakh from Babu on November 1. Tiwari was caught by DVAC while receiving another Rs 20 lakh on December 1.
