NEW DELHI: The Union cabinet on Wednesday approved two highway projects in Bihar and Tripura with a total estimated cost of Rs 5,550 crore. While the bridge project across the Ganga will make passenger and goods movement faster between north and south Bihar, the road project in Tripura will cut travel time between Khowai and Harina by half.
Announcing the decisions, I&B minister Anurag Thakur said the Modi government has put a huge thrust on development of NHs across the country and has put development of Bihar on priority.On the decision to build a 6-lane cable-stayed bridge across the Ganga spanning over 4.5 km, the minister said it was designed to ensure smooth passage of large boats below the bridge, thereby supporting inland water transport.
