All’s well in JD(U): Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh dismisses reports of removal from party post – Times of India

PATNA: Amidst swirling speculation within JD(U) about a potential leadership change, its national president Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh dismissed Saturday suggestions of his removal during the party’s national executive and council meeting on December 29 in New Delhi.
For his part, Bihar CM and JD(U) de facto head Nitish Kumar visited Singh’s home in Patna, and the two leaders discussed the current political scenario ahead of the party’s crucial meeting.
Responding to reporters, Singh said: “Should we first discuss with you whatever decision the party will take at its national executive meeting?” He emphasised that all is well within JD(U) and the INDIA bloc allies.
Singh highlighted his 37-year-long cordial relationship with Nitish and criticised BJP functionaries, especially former Bihar deputy CM Sushil Modi, who had remarked about his potential removal. “Is Sushil Modi an astrologer? Why not ask him whether he was sure about his return to the Rajya Sabha for a second term?” He criticised the BJP MP for “peeping into the affairs” of other parties.
Addressing questions about his future and rumours of Nitish being unhappy with the party’s top leaders, Singh said: “Whatever decision the party will take at its national executive meeting cannot be discussed before the media in advance.”
Sources in JD(U) suggested that Nitish might bring about a change in the party’s national leadership, similar to past replacements of leaders like Sharad Yadav and RCP Singh.
Lalan Singh, who became party president in December 2022, has had a complex relationship with Nitish, including periods of political differences and reconciliation. Political observers noted their history, including Singh’s return to JD(U) in 2014 after earlier disagreements.
